Easy Ways to Show Kindness In Your Community

November 14, 2017

World kindness is today, November 13th and I do believe we could all use a little extra kindness in our world. In this day and age we see so much violence and destruction via media outlets. Then, we often hear about bullying in schools and even on social media platforms. It can be overwhelming to say the least. Some days it’s nice just to slow down and take a break from all that is happening in our busy world and show some kindness. I’m a firm believer in karma and I honestly believe if you throw kindness around like confetti as Grandpa Shorter’s would say, it will come back at you two fold.

Locally owned and operated since 1946, Grandpa Shorter’s third generation proprietor, Jennifer Shorter is a firm believer in kindness and often gives back to the community and local organizations such as The United Way and Camp Daggett. It’s the simple things in life that often bring the most joy and putting a smile on someones face is a great way to go about it.

Today on the blog, I am sharing with you some easy ideas on ways to show kindness in your community. Whether you live here in rural Northern Michigan or maybe you’re from a big city, simple acts of kindness can go a long way.

Ways to Show Kindness In Your Community

  1. Smile and Make Eye Contact. Sounds simple right? How many times a day do you find yourself looking down at your phone while walking on the sidewalk, walking through a store or any other public place. Simply making eye contact and smiling makes others want to smile too and shows you care.
  2. Use your manners. I’m a huge fan of manners and think it’s just as important as smiling and making eye contact. Saying please and thank you is showing you care. It also shows respect and appreciation. A few weeks ago I sat down with Jennifer Shorter and we talked about appreciation and treating everyone around you respectfully. Saying please and thank you is an easy and sincere way to do that!
  3. Give a Sincere Compliment. A sincere compliment is a great way to show kindness and is sure to brighten someones day. Think about how you feel when someone pays you a sincere compliment. It gives your day a small and sometimes, much needed boost.
