Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts Enlists the Aid of Customers to Honor Fallen Vets this Memorial Day

Grandpa Shorter's Gifts Enlists the Aid of Customers to Honor Fallen Vets this Memorial Day

Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts is inviting patrons to come to the store on the Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day to receive a complimentary rose to place on the grave of a veteran. Even if customers do not have a deceased family member who is a veteran, the Grandpa Shorter’s staff encourages shoppers to take a flower and decorate the grave of ANY of our United States veterans.

By participating in this event through the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, not only will graves of local veterans will be honored but 150 roses will also be placed on headstones at Arlington National Cemetery this Memorial Day.  Jennifer Shorter, owner of Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts says “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate both our local and national heroes.”  In 2013 alone, the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation, had flowers placed on the graves of 80,000 fallen heroes.

Memorial Day, “a time to honor those who have served and fallen and those who are left to carry on without them”, has always been a special day for the Shorter family.   This year, as in years past, three generations of the  Shorter family (some traveling in from Washington state) will be weeding, planting and remembering family members buried in the local area. Honoring loved ones and those that have served this country is a tradition the family is pleased to extend to the community.

Please come early as supplies are limited to 250 roses.  Also available at the Shorter’s stores is a free flag etiquette sheet that shows how to properly fold, display and protect our nation’s flag.  Ask for your complimentary copy at the front counter.
