Notable November at GSG
Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts does many things well. They have one of the largest selections of northern Michigan souvenirs in the city including a plethora of Petoskey stones and Petoskey stone products. Their customer service is top notch, and they are a champion for the community. And, one more thing that they do especially well is hosting store events. As you may recall, they received an award this past June for doing just that. They were crowned Best of 2025: Store Events at Retailer Excellence Awards. Jennifer and her crew bring you all sorts of fun sales and promotions and amazing events each month, and the good news is that November is no different. The team has a number of fun events scheduled.
On Saturday, November 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts and J.W. Shorter and Son Mercantile are offering a Deer Hunting Widows Sip & Shop. This event coincides with the Michigan tradition of primarily male hunters celebrating the first weekend of firearm hunting season by traveling with their friends to deer camp where many of them drink beer for two days and also sometimes harvest a deer or two. While the hunters (be they female or male) are away at deer camp, their widows (also be they female or male) can enjoy a fun-filled sip and shop evening with their friends. From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., enjoy lite snacks, refreshments, games and exclusive sales at both Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts and J.W. Shorter and Son Mercantile.
Then, on Sunday, November 16, Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts is bringing back a popular event that showcases some young, local, artistic talent with their Young Entrepreneur Pop-Up Shop right in the store. Jennifer Shorter is a huge supporter and promoter of artists of all ages, but she especially likes to support young people in their artistic and entrepreneurial endeavors. From noon to 4:00 p.m., you can start on your Christmas list early by shopping small while also supporting local, young entrepreneurs who have been working hard on their goods.
The following weekend at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts, Luci and Carl’s Candy Cabin, and J.W. Shorter and Son Mercantile you can celebrate all things pink during Pink Weekend. On Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22, you can enjoy special discounts, pink-themed goodies, and gift ideas for the whole family. On Friday night, the stores will be open until 8:00 p.m. to coincide with Downtown Petoskey’s Ladies Opening Night event. There will be refreshments served in addition to games and prizes. Stop by all three stores on November 21 and 22 to see what’s new, what’s pink, and what’s waiting for you.
Then, the last weekend in November is the weekend we all have been waiting for. Two of the biggest in-person shopping days of the year are the Friday and Saturday right after Thanksgiving. Black Friday this year is November 28, and Small Business Saturday is November 29, and you can bet that Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts along with Luci and Carl’s Candy Cabin and J.W. Shorter and Son Mercantile are going to be offering all sorts of deals for holiday shoppers. November is a month for events at the Grandpa Shorter’s family of stores! Just think, the more shopping you get done in November, the less you will have to worry about in December. And that will give you more time to enjoy the important things in life like sleeping in, cheering on the Detroit Lions, and eating delicious holiday food.
