Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks

For me spring is all about regrouping, reorganizing, purging and bringing in new fresh ideas.  It makes me happy and sane to have my spaces usable again.

As my mother-in-law, Mari, always says spring cleaning is taking inventory of what you have and what you need.  For me it always seems that as I move through the house I find what we are out of but also things I had forgotten we had.  It is always a daunting task so I wanted to share some ideas on how to get it done without adding stress to your life.

7 Tips to make Spring Cleaning Do-Able:

  1. Pick one area every day or once a week– If you overwhelm yourself with too many areas to clean you will not be able to even start.  I just tell myself I am doing one drawer – then that goes quickly and I usually am able to get another area done too.  But at least I get started.
  1. Take everything out of the area, drawer or shelf to start. Then put it back in a little at a time.
  1. Use Tupperware and boxes to make defined spaces for items so you can keep the organization going for months.  They also help items that fall over easily stand up.
  1. Keep a garbage bag and give-away box close by so you can toss items you don’t use.
  1. Be sure to vacuum or wipe down the area before putting the items back.
  1. You can tuck away items you don’t use often but be sure your daily items are up front and you are able to get to them.
  1. Put LIKE with LIKE so that you know where items go and how they all make sense.

Being more organized allows you to save time and be more efficient.

Do you do spring cleaning?  It’s something that I am learning to love because of the clarity it brings – one shelf at a time.

Until next time,
