Bye-Bye Becky You Will Be Missed

Bye-Bye Becky you will be missed!! Back in 2006, Becky Christensen was hired to work at Grandpa Shorter’s.  Her responsibilities were no different from any other employee’s – clean, restock, run a register, and, most importantly, help the customers.  Now, eight years later, she’s grown from a cashier to Jenn’s right-hand woman.  Because I’ve only been at Grandpa Shorter’s for the second half of Becky’s time there, I asked Jennifer about their time together at the store.  I tried to take her answers and put them in my own words, but every time I changed them, they lost a bit of the love and respect that Jenn holds for Becky.  Instead, I decided to keep Jenn’s answers in her own words:

Becky Christensen Grandpa Shorters

When she was hired, did you expect her to become so important to the store?

No, but I’m sure glad she did!! I interviewed her three times and made her do a display as part of one interview. She did great!

What one thing do you want to make sure she knows when she leaves?

That she has made an impact and will always be part of the history of Grandpa Shorter ‘s. She will be missed and there will always be a spot here for her.

What’s one of your favorite things about Becky as a worker? As a person?

Becky attacks everything with speed and gusto!! She has a great sense of humor. She always gives everything her all.

Why do you think Becky’s such a great fit at Grandpa Shorter’s and JW?

Because she works hard and treats the stores like they’re hers. Her wonderful sense of humor and her willingness to please make her a great friend and coworker.

A goodbye to Becky Christenson who worked at Grandpa shorters since 2006

Do you have a favorite memory of Becky?

  • Becky was so nervous when I was interviewing her that her hands shook – a lot!! And they shook every time I talked to her for months. I remember realizing after about six months that she didn’t shake anymore when I talked to her! I was very excited.
  • I loved designing windows with Becky. We made a great team and she always had great ideas.
  • I will really miss working every day with my good friend.

FYI – Becky has an art degree from University of Michigan and a masters in teaching from Central Michigan University!!

Everyone at the store agrees that Becky is a near-vital member of the Grandpa Shorter’s family.  She knows both stores inside and out.  Quick to jump to anyone’s aid, although she usually has too much on her plate already. Becky is a prime example of the type of worker we should all strive to be.  We will all miss Becky as she moves into the next chapter of her life down in Cadillac.  Bon voyage, Becky!
