Chocolate Chip Mummy Cookies

October 23, 2017

It’s almost Halloween and there is a chill in the air. I love Halloween and I love making Halloween treats to share with the kids classrooms. Every year we are given a holiday that we have to provide treats for or just simply help out that day during the classroom party. This year, my older children are in third grade and I was asked to help out during the Halloween party.

I love making fun and easy holiday treats, no matter what the holiday is. This Halloween I wanted something easy for the class as well as easy. A while back I made these Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies on the Grandpa Shorter’s blog. We love chocolate chip cookies at our house and they never last long. I decided to make the chocolate chip cookies again but dress them up at mummy’s.

These cookies are delicious and easy to make and after they cool, you simply frost with vanilla frosting making them look like mummy’s. They are spookily delicious and won’t last long!

Chocolate Chip Mummy Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 C. salted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 C. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 tbs. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 C. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 12 oz chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tub of vanilla frosting
  • large candy eyes
  • freezer storage bag
  • kitchen scissors

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with foil, non-stick baking mat or parchment paper.
  2. Combine the melted butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  3. Add in the 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and slowly add in the flour and stir gently to combine. Add in the chocolate chips.
  4. Use a small tablespoon or a cookie scoop to scoop the cookie dough, gently roll the dough into a tall rectangle using your hands and gently flatten the ends slightly. Trust me here, it will look funny but the cookie with bake down into a chewy soft cookie once it’s baking. Stand the dough up about 2″ apart on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake 8-10 minutes (9 minutes was perfect in my oven), but do not overbake. These cookies are meant to be soft and chewy.
  6. Remove the oven and place 2 large candy eyes on each cookie.
  7. Allow the cookies to cool completely.
  8. Fill the freezer bag with vanilla frosting and snip one corner with the kitchen scissors.
  9. Gently squeeze the frosting out of the bag back and forth onto the chocolate chip cookies and around the eyes making them appear as mummies.
  10. Enjoy!

*Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies.
