Check Out Bowling Down Main Street
The event may have gone and passed, but make sure not to miss Bowling Down Main Street in Harbor Springs next year! The event is held every year around April Fool’s Day, so that makes it pretty easy to mark your calendars in advance.
The Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce holds this event each year and all of the public is welcome. This year happen to be the 20th “Bowling Down Main Street” event in history! The event was created due to a need to wake up the town from it’s ghostly appearance after the winter had died down and bring more people into Harbor Springs. One man mentioned that the streets were so quiet that no one would even notice cannons going off.. so they tried it. Needless to say, shooting cannons in the middle of Main Street was not the brightest idea. However, there was still a need to wake the town from it’s winter slumber. Hence- Bowling Down Main Street.
As you can see, although the public is welcome to partake in the bowling event, the kid’s truly outnumber all other participants. They absolutely love the event, and the Chamber makes bowling fun for all ages. I watched bowlers from ages 2-3, all the way up to 11 and 12. The event is compatible to children of any age. Your three year old cant lift the bowling ball? No problem. Ramps that help the ball down the lane are available for those whom wish to use them. And, I can’t forget to mention the suckers! Each time a child bowled, no matter how well they knocked over those stubborn pins, they received a sucker as a reward.
This year just happen to be a beautiful day for the event! I was told that Bowling Down Main Street is held every year no matter the weather. Some years have been snowy, other years have been sunny and in the 70’s. The event was held in the mid afternoon between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Normally, children would be in school, but the timing of the event worked out great, because they had just begun Spring Break. Perfect planning!
