Grandma Otto’s Almond Scones
Hi Friends,
This is my mother’s scone recipe. She has been making them for decades – I remember waking up to the smell of scones when I was a kid.
Recipe for Grandma Otto’s Almond Scones
Ingredients:
– 2 cups flour & a bit extra
– 1/2 cup sugar & a bit extra
– 2 tsp baking powder
– 1/4 tsp baking soda
– 1/2 cup cold butter
– 1/2 + 1/8 cup of buttermilk
– 1 Tablespoon almond flavoring
– 2 handfuls of almond slivers
– 1 cup milk chocolate OR dried sour cherries
Directions:
– 2 cups flour
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 2 tsp baking powder
– 1/4 tsp baking soda
– 1/2 cup cold butter – cut into small pieces
Blend all these ingredients in food processor
Add:
– 1/2 + 1/8 cup of buttermilk
– 1 Tablespoon almond flavoring
Blend in food processor
Makes 12 scones
Next:
– Pour into a large bowl
– Add 1 cup of milk chocolate chips or sour dried cherries
– Mix in by hand
– Pat dough into a ball & kneed on a lightly floured surface for 5 – 6 turns
– Divide dough into two parts
– Flatten into a 5″ circle wide
– sprinkle with sugar & slivered almonds
– Cut into 6 pieces
– place on cookie sheets
– Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes – or until golden brown
