Little Traverse Civic Theater

April 18, 2016

The weekend will be here before you know it and I know, I always like to either play things by ear or have a few weekend plans already set and in place. Do you have any weekend plans for the next few weekends? If not, why not take an evening and check out a play put on by the Little Traverse Civic Theater here in Petoskey?

Did you know that we had a play group in our area? I was vaguely aware of it a few years ago and then my good friend Libby became a member, so I got to hear all about it and from then on out it seems like the group has grown and puts on a variety of plays several times a year. The local group is comprised of community members and has been established since 1945, putting their first play on in 1946.

Play member often have practice multiple times a week leading up to a play and often play a variety of production roles such as directing, behind the scenes managing and even the making of the costumes you see during the shows. It is all hands on for Little Traverse Civic Theater group and plays take place at Crooked Tree Arts Center, here in Petoskey.

This coming weekend marks the opening of the Little Traverse Civic Theater’s 2016 spring play: The Sleeper. The play opens Thursday evening, April 21st and runs through Sunday, April 24th. It will also show the following weekend (April 28-30) as well.

The Sleeper is described as “A suburban “security mom” shell-shocked by the new post 9/11 reality, finds herself irresistibly drawn to her son’s tutor, a handsome young man with political leanings far different from her own. Her “awakening” leads to a bizarre series of events that blows the lid off her previously sheltered existence and change the lives of all around her. A dark and slightly zany comedy.”

Tickets for the shows range between $12-$17 and can be purchased here, in person starting 1 hour prior to showtime, or by phone 231-348-1850.
