North Central Michigan College Lecture Series 2016
North Central Michigan College is a Northern Michigan, Petoskey landmark. It’s a well known go to community college for many local high school students looking to get a jump start on college courses while still attending high school. By staying local, students can not only save money but also get university quality courses right here at home in Northern Michigan. And, it’s not only high school students taking courses at North Central, many adults are also jumping on the bandwagon, whether it’s to brush up on a current career related course or maybe to get a head start on a new job position.
I graduated from high school in 1997 and being a know it all teenager at the time, I decided to jump right into university life and headed straight to Michigan State University in East Lansing. I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. I was homesick and I tanked. Big time. The classes were hard and many of my instructors were teaching assistants who spoke broken English. I learned the hard way and should have taken a few courses locally before jumping into the big times.
After graduating from Lake Superior State University in 2003 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Human Services I actually went back to North Central within a year and worked on getting my Michigan Teaching certification. The courses and instructors were just what I needed, working full time as a Head Start teacher and going to school full time. I am so happy I stayed local and took advantage of it.
So, maybe you’re not interested in taking a full load of courses at North Central but still want to take advantage of it’s offerings and prefer something short and sweet. North Central’s lecture offerings are short, sweet and you’ll walk out with some new knowledge you didn’t have before.
Sound intriguing? North Central offers lectures on a variety of topics every few weeks. Most are free of charge, some do require a $10 free but lunch is also provided and topics vary widely so you’re bound to find one that interests you.
