Petoskey Downtown Summer Open House

Hello friends! It is finally June, school is almost out for most of us and the summer season here in Northern Michigan is about to kick off. The Petoskey Downtown Summer Open House is this Friday June 5th, 5-8pm and I’m really looking for to it! The kids only have a week and a half left of school and this is a great way to get a jump start on summer break and get us all out of the house for the evening. Now that the weather is warming up, I think everyone in the area has noticed more people out and about in town. Summer cottages are also being opened for the season after a long winter and everyone seems really excited for summer.
If you’re in Northern Michigan this weekend or thinking of a quick weekend trip up north with friends plan a stop in Petoskey for the Open House on Friday night. My husband and I have attended every Holiday Open House in December since we have lived here in Petoskey. We were excited to see a summer open house added a few years later and started attending both events, even after having kids. It’s family friendly, gets us out of the house and the kids love seeing the Petoskey Steel Drum Band (they really are awesome if you’ve never seen them in person).

I love the the Downtown Open House events becuase it allows local downtown businesses to stay open much later than usual, often offering customers great sales, in store specials, food and some even provide adult beverages. Free food, drinks and a fun evening out of the house? Yes, please! Make sure you stop by Grandpa Shorter’s on Lake Street and say hi to the staff there, maybe even grab some Cherry Barbeque Sauce for those summer recipes! They would love too see you and show you around the store.

Have little ones? Great! The Open House is also family friendly. We’ve always attended the open house with our kids and Friday June 5th will also kick off the first movie in the park for the summer season at dusk: Mary Poppins.

- 5:30pm – Petoskey Steel Drum Band
- 5:30pm – Taste of Downtown featuring multiple downtown restaurants
- 7:30pm – Summer Fashion Show on Lake Street featuring hot new summer fashions
- 9:20pm – Movie in the park: Mary Poppins
