The Pied Piper Skatery: Roller Skating Fun!

January 19, 2015

If you’re an adult like me you probably have fond memories of spending a few days a week at your local roller rink. I remember spending every Saturday or Sunday afternoon at our roller rink, here in Petoskey, (now the American Spoon Foods warehouse at the corner of Click and River roads). My older cousin would often pick me up after church every Sunday afternoon and we would head over from Indian River and spend the afternoon skating. She was the DJ and I would always get to bring a friend if I wanted. It was so much fun!

Fast forward into adulthood and the Petoskey roller rink closed down and it’s been a very long time since I’ve skated. Enter the newest and coolest weekend activity to our area: The Pied Piper Roller Skating Rink in Walloon Lake.

Pied Piper Skating Rink in Northern Michigan! A fun activity for the entire family year-around.
A private 80’s themed birthday party enjoyed by children and adults!

There’s some interesting history behind the Pied Piper: the building was originally opened in 1941 and used as a dance hall and in later years ownership was transferred and the hall became aroller skating rink in the 80’s. It eventually closed it’s doors in 1991 and was reopened again from 2007 – 2010 as the Rustic Ballroom.

In December of 2011, The Pied Piper Skatery was purchased by Angie and Jeff Marshall and the entire inside of the building was revamped making the skatery what it is today. The skatery celebrated it’s grand opening on August 16, 2014 and has been going strong ever since! It’s the perfect venue for Northern Michigan winters, especially if you’re not a huge fan of the snow and cold like me. Grab the kids and spend an afternoon reminiscing about your childhood and show the kids the moves you thought were oh, so cool back in the day!

Have an event to plan? The Pied Piper also has birthday party and event packages in varying price ranges and includes snacks, beverages and even pizza.

The Pied Piper is open Thursday-Saturday with varying admission prices and skate rental is just $2. I love that toddlers can skate too! We attended a birthday arty at the Pied Piper a few months ago and they offer adjustable skates for young kiddos and also for those that aren’t quite comfortable in regular roller skates. If you prefer roller blades, you can bring those with if you wish.

Every 2nd Saturday of the month the Pied Piper will be having a fun theme night –

  • February 14 th – Valentines
  • March 14th – St. Patty’s Day
  • April 11th – 70’s Theme
  • May 9th – 80’s Theme
  • June 13th – Luau/Hawaiian Theme
  • July 11th – Sock Hop
  • August 8th – Piped Piper Anniversary Bash!
