Pizza Party Day May 19th & Mighty Fine Pizza
Pizza. Everyone eats it. No matter how young or old you are you’ve probably enjoyed a slice, or three at any given time during your life. One of the big reasons pizza is so popular? You ou can put whatever you like on the delicious dough for toppings and it’s automatically called pizza. Do you love anchovies? Go for it. Are you a fan of black olives? Yum! Green pepper slices? Not my cup of tea but hey, enjoy! Anyway you top it, it’s pizza and there are millions of ways to make it. When it comes to pizza sauce, traditional tomato based is typically the usual route. Now a days though, you can find other sauces such as white alfredo, mayo mixed with fresh pesto and more! A basic pizza dough is generally plain so adding pizzaz with a non-typical sauce and toppings is great way to spice it up! Want some extra flavor in your pizza dough? Add seasonings like oregano and garlic. Yum!
National Pizza Day is February 9th, and May 19th is officially National Pizza Party Day! I had no idea but any excuse to eat pizza is ok by me!

My family loves pizza and so do I. We order it probably twice a month as take out and it’s usually after an after school activity or sports practice. My kids have their favorite pizza joints here in Petoskey in as do my husband and I but we try to rotate through all of our favorites so everyone gets their favorite at least once every few months. Serve with a salad, breadsticks and you have a complete meal. One the the oldest pizza places here in Petoskey is Mighty Fine Pizza, it’s been around since 1966 and makes one of the best pizzas in town. ‘At just 8’ wide and 60’ long, and once an alleyway’ if you’ve never been inside Mighty Fine Pizza, it’s quite the site and their pizza is delicious!
I was able to chat with Ambre and Earl Flynn, Mighty Fine’s owners, and ask them a few questions regarding Mighty Fine Pizza:
Q: What is your most popular pizza?
A: The Northman is our most popular pizza. It has Pepperoni, Ham, Green Pepper, Onion, Bacon – A Petoskey classic!
Q: I’ve heard there are a few new crusts in the works, what are they?
A: Garlic Herb Pizza Crust, we mix the herbs right into the dough when making it. We also just added new cold deli sandwiches to our menu that use our pizza dough as the bread. Both are really good!
Q: What is the highest number of pizzas you’ve sold in one day?
A: July 4th is always the busiest day of the year for us. We typically sell around 250-270 pizzas that day!
Q: What’s the most unique pizza request that you receive?
A: The most unique pizza order according to Earl was anchovies, sauerkraut, pepperoni, mushrooms, pineapple and feta. We also had a customer who would bring in his own fresh garlic and ask that we put it on his medium onion pizza. It was a ton of garlic covering the entire pizza.
Q: What is your favorite pizza?
A: Earl loves the original hand-tossed with pineapple and pepperoni. Ambre enjoys the thin crust with chicken, spinach, tomato and bacon and is similar to a club pizza.
Q: Are the pizza crusts and sauces homemade?
A: We make our dough and sauce fresh daily and have used the same Mighty Fine recipe from years ago.
Q: What is your delivery radius? Do you charge more for outside the area?
A: We have a wide delivery radius. We travel as far north as Harbor Springs and as far south as Walloon Junction. Customers can request a farther delivery radius and pay extra.
