Quack Walk Sale 2025
When you think of huge sales in Petoskey, the one that instantly comes to mind is sidewalk sales, an annual tradition for the past 61 years. Always the last full weekend of July, Petoskey does sidewalk sales right. They close off the downtown streets to cars, and the stores set up tables and tents in the streets to sell all of their end of the season, slightly damaged, or overstock items at huge, discounted prices. Shoppers come from all over the state to take advantage of the great deals. This sale is beloved by all, but what if I told you that you did not have to wait until July to enjoy great deals in the town that you love. What if there was a sale in April when many of your favorite downtown stores are offering their goods at discounted prices? Would you say that is a fabulous idea? Or would you say it is just ducky?
In early spring of 2024 Jennifer Shorter came up with the idea for a Quack Walk Sale in downtown Petoskey. I recently caught up with her to find out her inspiration behind the sale. Thinking perhaps that it coincides with the spring migration patterns of ducks, I wanted to find out from the source.
Why a Quack Walk Sale? What is the deal with the ducks?
Well, it really came out of the fact that last year I had this leftover blowup duck, and I was looking at it going, ‘what can I do with this?’ So, I created an entire event around it. Really, it’s meant to be like a sidewalk sale event, but inside, and during April, and who doesn’t smile when they see yellow rubber ducks? I mean, I do! So, it’s called a quack walk sale. Get it? Kinda like a sidewalk sale, but a quack walk. Quack, quack.
What can shoppers expect?
Shoppers can expect to find ducks everywhere and ducky specials. In our stores, we will be having lots of grab bags, ducky inspired games, and drawings, and some extra prizes that are duck themed as well. [There will be] tons of products on sale. This is really a big clearance sale for us, as we get ready for the new product that is rolling in. We will have items up to 75% off. We have other businesses in downtown participating, and we are encouraging them to have sales, specials, and fun games as well.
Is there anything else you want shoppers to know about this event?
We are running a special where if you show up in a ducky-inspired outfit you will get a gift certificate. That’s always fun to see what people come up with.
