S’mores Snack Mix

June 16, 2015

It’s summer and today on the blog we are talking S’mores. You know what I’m talking about, the warm ooey, gooey, delicious graham cracker sandwich with melted chocolate and marshmallow combo. Oh, yeah. I could eat them everyday if I tried. They are about as American as apple pie and easy to make! Need I say more? School is out for summer, which for a lot of us, means spending summer vacation here in Northern Michigan, staying up late with friends and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. What’s a campfire without S’mores? It’s just not the same! I am a S’more fanatic. Chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers? Yes, please!

If you’ve been on Pinterest lately, S’mores are everywhere and they aren’t just for around the campfire anymore. There are S’more cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc. If you can name it, you can probably make it into a S’more. With many of us traveling or camping this summer and being outdoors, I put together a quick and easy snack mix you can throw together for the kids to have during the car trip, out on the boat fishing, hiking or just hanging around the camp site looking for a snack to munch on.

It’s quick to make, portable and best of all, it’s not messy! I made these up this morning and gave each of the kiddos one to take outside and they loved it. Best of all, it makes a large batch that you can divvy up into snack size bags and toss into your bag while traveling.

S’mores Snack Mix Ingredients:

  • 10.5 oz package mini marshmallows
  • 12 oz package of semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 3 C. mini pretzel twists
  • 2 sealed squares or graham cracker sheets, broken into smaller pieces or cut using kitchen scissors (I did this by eye)
  • Small snack size Ziploc type baggies

Directions:

  • Combine all the ingredients and put into the small snack size baggies.

The nice thing about this recipe is that you can toss in whatever you have on hand. Have peanuts or almonds? Throw them in! M&M’s in the baking cupboard? Why not! You can’t mess it up and almost anything goes. I happened to have mini pretzel twists on hand so those got put into the mix.
