Shawn Y – Grandpa Shorter’s June Featured Employee
Hello, friends and welcome back! As you know, we started featuring a new employee every month on the blog. It’s already the end of June and we are featuring another hard working Grandpa Shorter’s employee of the month!
Ever wonder how Grandpa Shorter’s customer service is so fabulous? It’s because of these hard working, customer service oriented guys and gals working tirelessly to give you the best possible customer service. Summer is our busy season here in Petoskey and we love seeing new faces in the store so make sure to stop by the next time you are in town.

For the month of June, I’m introducing you to Shawn Y. Shawn has been with Grandpa Shorter’s and J.W. & Son Mercantile for 8 years. Shawn began working summers at Grandpa Shorter’s and soon fell in love, picking up shifts throughout the entire year. Fast forward to today and she manages J.W. & Son Mercantile a few stores up for Shorter’s, so make sure to stop in and say hello the next time you are in Petsokey!
Shawn, like many Grandpa Shorter’s employee’s was raised here in Northern Michigan, growing up in Cheboygan. After high school she moved to Lansing and eventually found her way back north and has called Petoskey home for over 17 years. Outside of work, Shawn enjoys reading, walking along Lake Michigan’s gorgeous shoreline and spending time with her girls who are active in the Petoskey Steel Drum band and Soccer.

Q: Do you have family in the area?
A: I have been married to my husband Bryan for almost 22 years. We have 3 daughters aged 16, 18 and 20. We also have 2 pets: a cat and a dog.
Q: What is your favorite place to eat lunch or dinner in the Petoskey area?
A: We love the Noggin Room, Tap 30 and the Side Door Saloon.
Q: If you had to live anywhere else other than Northern Michigan, where would it be and why?
A: I will always live in Petoskey but would someday like to winter in a warmer area.
